The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the production team.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only came recently.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle misconduct within the police force.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."

New Character and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.

However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new installment."

Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."

Show History

The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of season six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for further series.

However, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
