Performer Refutes Anti-Vaxxer Position After Voicing Controversial Covid Film
Liam Neeson has given his vocal talents to a feature-length documentary that casts doubt on the efficacy of vaccinations and praises ex- government figure the political figure.
The Film's Contentious Origins
Called "Plague of Corruption," the project is inspired by a popular book co-authored by a disgraced researcher, who gained notoriety during the pandemic for allegations that the illness was caused by a problematic version of the influenza shot.
The publication's collaborator, a producer, has previously authored books with far-right radio host Alex Jones. The producer took to social media praising Neeson's role in the documentary.
A Firm Statement
Representatives for Neeson have issued a comment firmly refuting claims that he supports anti-vax views.
"Everyone can recognize that misconduct can exist within the medical sector, but that must not be equated to rejection of vaccines," the comment explains. "Neeson never has been, and cannot be described as, anti-vax. His considerable work with the UN children's agency highlights his enduring support for global immunisation initiatives."
The response added that the star was not involved in crafting the documentary's messaging and that inquiries about its claims should be directed to the producers.
Central Claims Featured in the Film
As presented, the narration read by Neeson features several strong statements:
- It claims that pro-immunization voices have demanded "blind obedience" to public institutions.
- It posits that "science has become highly politicised."
- Robert F Kennedy Jr is interviewed saying, "The major issue with vaccines is that they are not properly vetted."
- The narration further attacks pandemic restrictions, claiming they caused severe distress that led to the loss of thousands of lives.
- Concerning Covid vaccines, it cites a report that they were "developed too quickly" and seen as "hazardous tests."
Previous Controversy and Current Debates
The documentary further cites a historical film about AIDS medication trials on children, which was later the subject of a formal apology by the broadcaster for violations of guidelines.
Recently, RFK Jr instructed the CDC to revise its longstanding position that there is no connection between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder. This claim is echoed in the documentary, despite a fresh analysis from the WHO reiterating no connection has been found.
A Past Position of Endorsement
Differing from the documentary's tone, Neeson has in the past voiced firm endorsement for vaccines in his role as a Unicef global ambassador.
Two years ago, he referred to vaccines as "an incredible achievement," adding that "The discourse about vaccines in the past few years has lost sight of how much benefit they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest collective achievements in human history."
"Plague of Corruption" ends with Neeson's narration stating, "This is not the conclusion of our story. This is the start of a different phase."
