Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial Fall Classic since the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Down by two runs, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for everyone here, Toronto, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."

George Springer has now hit 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.

Toronto's team secured the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
